Let me give a little bit of background before diving into a review. When the original NES came out, I was hooked. I didn’t think anything could be better than Super Mario Bros. Then there was the Sega Genesis…and as I entered college, the original Playstation. Wow!

After college I settled down, got married, had children, and stopped playing games for a while. Just 2 years ago I picked up a wii “for the family” and have enjoyed it since. Mario Galaxy 2 looks great and is a great deal of fun to play…and there are other great games on the wii as well. For the record, I’d never played a PS2, PS3 or Xbox.

Don’t get me wrong, the wii is great. There are a number of wii exclusives that I love. But I was still wanting something with some better graphics/games and thus began my research between xbox and ps3. Both are great systems! This was going to be harder than I thought. In the end, I felt like the game selection for the PS3 slightly outweighed that of the xbox for the family. The PS3 has LittleBigPlanet and Ratchet and Clank, as well as Uncharted/Metal Gear/etc. And while the xbox has some great exclusives as well, I was leaning toward the PS3.

When I saw that the PS3 slim increased the hard drive from 120gb to 160gb I finally bit the bullet. I was wanting to get a blu-ray player sometime so I figured I’d just get the ps3. Just set it up last night. Set-up was a breeze and the graphics, wow, they truly are stunning. As I said, the wii is great and I’ll continue to play and enjoy wii-exclusive games, but compared to xbox/ps3 graphics, there really is no comparison. I’m really looking forward to NHL 11 and Gran Turismo 5 (as the wii is lacking in these types of games).

Overall, I’m thrilled with the PS3. I’m looking forward to getting my music and other media files loaded onto it and finally beginning the world of blu-ray movies and advanced gaming. While I do wish I could load files to it from a device formatted to something other than FAT, it’s certainly not a deal-breaker. The PS3 works as it should, set-up is simple, has free online, great exclusive games, and so much more. Whether or not it’s the right choice for you is up for you to decide. The Xbox is also a great system, but I’m happy with my final decision.

    Note: Extras you may need:

    - Extra controller, PS3 blu-ray remote control, and an hdmi or set of component cables depending on your video capabilities.

If you haven’t got a PS3, then this is the one to get (120GB & 250GB are discountinued) since this is an improvement over the current 120 and 250GB models in terms of power usage and noise reduction. For hardcore collectors and people who want to have a different colour, your better off buying the Japanese or Hong Kong version of the console instead, since it comes in a smooth white colour finish which by the way will not release outside the Asia region.

Like the topic says, it’s the best technical hardware on the market. I own the 360, and PS3 and I will say the PS3 is one console that doesn’t break. 360 on the other hand, I don’t know ANYONE with their first console. Sony made their Playstation 3 with quality parts and didn’t spare any expense. You get everything you had with the earlier PS3 fatty models, except this has improvements. First it uses processing chips that require less power (W) to run, which in case also reduces heat production. Also the PS3 Slim is silent, it’s the most quite hardware on the market, this is proven by testing (dB). Along with PS3 comes the best lineup of exclusive games, thanks to Sony’s first party line-up. You put all this together and you have the most solid piece of hardware on the market. Buy this instead of a Wii, 360, or anything else you have your eye on. The PS3 excels in gaming in unique genres besides FPS. Where the market is flooded by bad FPS games, only Sony has a waist deep line-up in games not in the genre or even related. Oh yea, of course with the improvements the console weights about 25-33% less than the PS3 fatty, and they are trimming weight, though very slight with new SKU’s. No matter what you want in gaming, or in an entertainment field, the PS3 is as far as you want to look. Take it from a guy who has been gaming on all the consoles for 4-5 years respectively.

The 160/320GB PS3 Slim SKU, is the King of the Hill.

    5/5 Stars!

This is great value!!! yes the 360 has more harddrive, but you can add any sat 2.5 to the ps3. But above of that, this is a really great piece if hardware and functions. that i know you know about. But the games, are amazing!!!! it trully has the best lineup, but most importante the more original and best quality. An I am really amazed on whats coming, from Killzone 3, the Move, resistance 3, Little big planet 2.. wow….. if this continues its going to set a new standard in quality games maybe someday even better than the ps2. Yes it was hard to follow the 360 and the hot selling wii, but eventually Sonys got it… Something that needs hard work, yes it is expensive to develop, but that also provoques that the quality is very much achieved.. Cant wait for Gran Turismo 5. Give it a try , i am sure you wont regret, and also people will be jelaous…. believe me…

Seriously people, if you haven’t bought a PS3 you’ve obviously been living under a rock or been sucking microsofts sausage and getting ripped off by their over priced peripherals and online.

Get with the program and get the PS3!

It has the BEST exclusives with a wide variety of genres. Free online with dedicated servers for its first party exclusives.

This is the best console ever made. PERIOD.
